On Saturday Corfe Castle welcomed league leaders Hamworthy Rec to The Fortress and a good crowd gathered on what was a resplendent afternoon.
The visitors started the better with a high press on Corfe and Rec found their break through fifteen minutes in after a Corfe midfielder attempted a diagonal which struck the back of a Rec player. The ricochet fell fortuitously to the Rec forward who finished neatly.
Corfe responded well and profited from good possession when they worked a nice break down the left flank, Ocean Smith squared to the arriving Josh Baker who passed the ball into the empty net.
Hamworthy restored their lead shortly after and possibly against the balance of play. They finished the half well by extending their lead to two goals after the onrushing Corfe goalie missed the bouncing ball, letting the Hamworthy striker in.
Both teams approached the second half with similar intensity, Corfe frustrated Hamworthy with some last ditch defending and some good goal keeping, despite creating many chance Rec couldn’t convert pressure into a goal.
The home side finished the stronger when Ocean Smith beat his man down the left again and squared to substitute Matt Suttle who finished well. The last five minutes were a cagey affair with Hamworthy seemingly on panic stations.
Unfortunately for the home side they couldn’t find the late equaliser.
