Corfe made the short trip to bottom of the league Wareham on Saturday hoping for a repeat of the thrilling 5-4 home win earlier in the season. With the reserve team’s match vs Donhead postponed due to the opponents not being able to field a side Corfe were well supported in their third local derby of the season.
Early on Martin Patterson’s plans were disrupted due to an injury to defender Pete Gill. With Ryan Cattano joining the action the team was reshuffled to accomodate the change in personell.
Corfe’s best chance in the first half came via Courtney Johnstone. Played in well by Marcus Smith Johnstone did well to get himself in a shooting position but struck his effort straight at the ‘keeper.
At the other end Wareham looked a constant threat from balls in to the box and dominated in the air but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping saw the scoreline remain 0-0 at the break.
The second half continued much the same as the first with Wareham failing to make the most of the headers they were winning from crosses and set pieces while the visitors missed a couple of good chances towards the end with Ocean Smith and Jack Hector going close.
Ultimately the game ended up the complete opposite of the nine goal encounter earlier in the season and ended in an uninspiring goalless draw.
Next up Corfe host Shaftsbury Reserves on Saturday the 23rd in a game which sees 11th play 12th. A win for The Castle could see them move above local rivals Swanage and in to the top 10.
A point a piece sees Corfe remain in 11th place in the Dorset Premier League while Wareham climb off the bottom, above Sherborne Town Reserves by the narrowest of margins.
