Corfe Castle 2-1 Holt United
Last minute winner leaves the Bull’s Raging.
Corfe welcomed Holt United to the fortress in hope of completing a league double over their mid table rivals. The game got off to a slow start with neither team really getting a grip on the game.
Long balls down the flanks seemed to be the away sides game plan in hope of getting balls into the box for the leagues top goalscorer Lewis Trigg. Corfe then found themselves getting in behind the Holt back line after some free flowing football set Ocean Smith away only to be denied by the experienced Holt keeper.
It was the away side that broke the deadlock when an in-swinging corner found Corfe flat footed resulting in the ball curling into the back post un-challenged to give the away side the lead.
The start of the second half seen Corfe at their best playing good football and causing the away side problems. The home side finally found themselves level when a cleared corner was passed back wide to Corfe CB Andy McCuish who fed the ball into a dangerous area in which prolific Courtney Johnstone’s out stretched boot got the all important touch to divert the ball past the keeper 1:1.
To say it was one way traffic from there on would be an understatement, Corfe really knocking on the door now with Nathan Joyce fizzing some great balls into the box only not to be finished by his team mates. Against the run of play Holt doing what they do best nearly took the lead with start man Trigg getting on the end of a superb cross only to be denied by the bar.
You could really sense a winning goal coming from the home side but in the fashion it did. With the away side having a corner and looking to grab all three points themselves the corner was plucked out the air by Adam Travers in which he quickly fired the ball up the pitch giving the Holt defender a horrible ball to defend, in which the ball broke for the Corfe attacker Cattano who’s goal ward effort took a wicked deflection and the travelling keeper could only watch it loop over him into the net.
With only a minute left on the clock Corfe had deservedly took all three points closing the gap to only three points behind their visitors Holt.
